DEVELOPING EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE LANGUAGE CLASSROOM
Thursday, January 23th 2025 > 3 – 5 pm

 
Emotional intelligence (EI) is a key soft skill, much needed to form healthy relationships and succeed in the world of work. During this interactive session, we will look at 1) how certain language activities can help students recognise their own emotions, and those of others, and subsequently help them communicate more effectively and empathetically and 2) how developing EI can aid language acquisition and foster a positive learning environment. The session will provide practical lesson ideas and activities which can help develop teachers’ emotional intelligence too!

EXPLOITING SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS TO ENHANCE LANGUAGE LEARNING

There is much discussion today about social media and its impact, particularly on young people, and we will not shy away from the debate during our interactive session. We will consider why social media is so popular, focussing on strategies used to engage users and facilitate communication, and how we can apply these same strategies in the language classroom. We will also look at social media content which can be repurposed to develop language skills and systems, providing you with lesson ideas and activities to motivate your students and help them improve their English.
