NANO IS FUTURE. NANO IS BEAUTIFUL
by Ivana Vobornik, nanotechnologist -CNR-INFM-TASC Labs AREA Science Park-TS
Special guest Marco Peloi, author of: ”Nanomondi. Scienza, tecnica ed estetica del mondo a dieci alla meno nove metri”, published by AREA Science Park, Trieste, 2007

Nanotechnology is the construction and use of functional structures designed from atomic or molecular scale with at least one characteristic dimension measured in nanometers. Their size allows them to exhibit novel and significantly improved physical, chemical, and biological properties, phenomena, and processes because of their size.

In the history of industrial engineering, technology characterized by length only occurred in microelectronics, but now we have nanotechnology. How small is one nanometer?

PERSPECTIVE AND OPTICAL ILLUSIONS

THE ORIGIN OF UNIVERSE
by Paolo Creminelli, astrophysicist, ICTP- the Abdul Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste

What is the story of our Universe starting from its origin? It may seem a too ambitious question, but recent theoretical progresses and observations give now a quite precise picture of the initial phases of the Cosmos. If we trace back its history back in time, we are able to describe its status almost 14 billion years ago, in a moment very close to the Big Bang and we find it very hot and energetic.
